Healthy Holidays? Oxymoron or attainable goal?

Once you hit Thanksgiving, it is like greased lightening until Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and all of the other December holidays rap on your door.  I love sweets, but I take a few measures to add a dose of health to each day in an easy way.

1) Brassica Decaf Green Tea - I make a pot of tea every morning.  I have one cup hot, and then pour the rest into a pitcher and put it in the fridge.  I get bored of water but shun soda, so iced decaf green tea is the perfect beverage.  If I dose in a tiny bit of honey, it gives my sweet tooth a little break.

Spicy Pumpkin Soup with BroccoSprouts garnish (thanks to Simply Recipes)

 

4 Tbsp unsalted butter

2 medium yellow onions, chopped

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

2 teaspoons curry powder

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

Pinch ground cayenne pepper (optional)

3 (15 oz) cans 100 percent pumpkin or 6 cups of chopped roasted pumpkin*
